Marketing campaigns for ‘Frostpunk 2’ and ‘The Alters’ are gaining momentum

In the first quarter of 2024, 11 bit studios S.A. recorded PLN 15.33 million in revenue. The operating loss amounted to PLN 1.03 million, and the net loss was PLN 1.6 million.

It is worth noting that as much as 48 per cent of the Company’s revenue during this period came from the sale of published games, led by ‘The Invincible’ and ‘The Thaumaturge’, which were launched on 6 November 2023 and 4 March 2024, respectively. ‘Although the sales of both games during their launch periods were slightly below our expectations, we are pleased to note that fans are responding well to the initial price promotions. This should have a positive impact on long-term sales over the coming years,’ said Przemysław Marszał, President of the Management Board of 11 bit studios S.A. The recent launch of  ‘INDIKA’, which debuted on 2 May for PC and on 17 May this year for consoles, has met expectations. ‘The title is receiving excellent reviews from both critics and fans and perfectly complements our portfolio of  ‘meaningful entertainment’ productions,’ noted Marszał. He also stated that this relatively small investment, in terms of the Company’s capital engagement, has already more than paid off.

According to Przemysław Marszał, this year’s performance will be primarily driven by the upcoming releases of ‘Frostpunk 2’ and ‘The Alters’. The first of these games will be launched on 25 July, available for PC and Mac. The release of ‘The Alters’ is scheduled shortly thereafter, also in the third quarter of this year. On its release day, this title will be simultaneously available for PC and the Xbox X/S and PS5 consoles.  Both productions, in line with the agreement signed with Microsoft Corporation last year, will be available on the Game Pass service on their launch days, managed by their American partner. ‘We are making every effort to ensure that both ‘Frostpunk 2’ and ‘The Alters’ demonstrate the highest technical and gameplay quality, as well as provide an abundance of emotions and enjoyment,’ stated Marszał. He assured  that the ongoing internal tests and periodic external tests allow the Company to address all feedback received from a broad range of individuals, including testers and players who have opted to purchase the  Deluxe Edition of ‘Frostpunk 2’. Owners of this edition were able to freely test a segment of the game for one week in April.

‘Frostpunk 2’ is breaking new ground for 11 bit studios S.A. as the Company’s first-ever game available for pre-sale. ‘Reflecting on several weeks of observations, the decision to go for pre-sale has proven to be overwhelmingly positive. Equally positive is our first-time initiative to organise a two-day showcase event for ‘Frostpunk 2’ and ‘The Alters’ aimed at members of the industry media and influencers,’ stated Marszał. On 16-17 May, nearly 100 guests from around the globe gathered in Warsaw at the invitation of 11 bit studios S.A. These included representatives from premier gaming outlets such as IGN,  GameSpot, PC Gamer, and Rock Paper Shotgun, and spanning regions from the US to Western Europe, Japan, Brazil, and Australia. Coverage from the event will be released in the coming days, following the  expiration of the information embargo. ‘The embargo for ‘The Alters’ will lift on Friday, 24 May, and for ‘Frostpunk 2’ on Monday, 27 May,’ Marszał clarified. The marketing campaign, which Marszał notes is gaining significant traction, is already generating robust interest from fans for both ‘Frostpunk 2’ and ‘The Alters’. ‘Frostpunk 2’ is now the third most anticipated game on the Steam platform’s wishlist, while  ‘The Alters’ holds the 70th position and continues to rise steadily. ‘What is important is that for both of these titles, we still have many planned marketing actions ahead of us,’ added Marszał.

An important driver of 11 bit studios S.A.’s performance in the longer term will be the release of paid downloadable content (DLCs), game editions for further hardware platforms, and, of course, the launch of  new titles. Later in 2024, ‘Creatures of Ava’, developed by Spanish studios Inverge and Chibig, is set to make its debut. In 2025, the Company plans to release another proprietary title, ‘Project 8’ (working title), as well as ‘Botin’ (also a working title). The latter is being developed by Digital Sun, the Spanish studio that created the highly successful ‘Moonlighter’, a major publishing hit for 11 bit studios S.A.
